1841 census Hall
« on: Saturday 26 November 05 18:13 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone please trace  the following

Samuel Hall aged 49 Shoemaker/Cordwainer b Kettering
Sarah Hall aged 49 born Kettering.

Their son Samuel 17 a shoemaker, his wife Rebecca 21 and Samuels sister Sarah 19 were living at Workhouse Lane Yard, Kettering, so they may be near by.

Many thanks Patrish.

Thanks so much Sandy, I am sure that is them, Thomas was my Samuels (the one you found in Workhouse lane yard) elder brother.  The Samuel aged 15 dos not fit, he must come from somewhere else, if only they had the relationships on this census.

About 3 years back I contacted Alan Clarke about my Hall family, he sent me what I thought he said were a list of all the Halls in Kettering at that time, but obviously it was not as you have found most of my family.

I really need to find the birth of Samuel Hall 45 to find his parents names, cant find him on the IGI, do you have any ideas?

Would you be able to find the marriage of Thomas and Elizabeth from that index? that would be very useful.

thanks Patrish

HI again patrish

Marilyn Ponting is offering Kettering look ups on the Northamptonshire Look up Exchange.

Most of the reocrds are still kept at the Church so she would be able to help if they baptised in the Parish Chuch or though I seem to remember you saying they were Baptists.

Maybe worth a try.

Hi Sandy,

I am bit confused here with Kettering and Northampton. Kettering is a town in Northampton so why are the registrations dist different?  Does it mean that if it says Kettering this only relates to the actual town of Kettering and therefore any other sourrounding towns or villages are Northampton?

The reason I ask is I have looked at an old map of Kettering dated 1887 I can see the Union Workhouse, so I am assuming Workshouse Lane Yard must be close by,also a little further up there looks what could easily be Brier Court, cant be 100% sure of that, difficult to read.

I do know that the parish registers of St.Peter and St.Paul Kettering are still held by the church as that is where I originally obtained the Baptisms of my Samuel and his parents marriage, so probably have to pay for another search there then.

Thanks Pat

Hi patrish

Here is a link to show what registration comes under which Town (i.e as noted on free bmd) . http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/nth.htm

It should answer the question re:Kettering is a Town in Northamptonshire not Northampton.

The workhouse is in St Mary's Road and still in use as a hospital.

The census information above is correctly noted as Northampton Town .

Let me know if you are still unsure after you have taken a look.

Cheers Sandy

Took a look and understand now, not being from that area, I thought that Northampton was short for Northamptonshire, I did not realise is was another place in its own right. I have noted the registrations districts for future reference.

How do I contact Marylin Ponting on the Northamptonshire Look Up Exchange?

Greatful thanks Patrish.
