Hi Arranroots

This one is a bit of a puzzle I know that William married Jane Chiffins  on the 25 Dec 1851, and I know that they had 3 children from what I can find, Matilda born 1853, two sons Alfred and William christened in 1856. In 1861 I have Matilda and William  living with their grandparents, and a death for a Alfred Shorter in Bishop Stortford 1857 which could possibly be my  Alfred. Have not been able to find a death for William or Jane in Bishop Stortford. So I thought I'd  try a census  look-up but they may have died, or one died and the other remarried.
William is still living with his grandparents in 1871 while I think Matilda may have died a year earlier. Haven't been able to find William in 1881. Thanks for the look-up it was worth a try anyway.
