Family of James W Perlan or Bridget Moran
« on: Tuesday 29 November 05 23:54 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the family of James W Perlan or Bridget Moran.  Last heard of in 1849 at the christening of Agnes Maguire on July 13th at The Church of St Charles Borremeo Hull. Does any one recognise these names?
On the 1851 census in Hull. Bridget Moran, if that is her married name was 22yrs old and living in Mill Street Hull with Husband John 30yrs old, and two children Mary 4yrs old and Henry 2yrs old. I am clutching at straws here.. Bridget could have been called Maguire or Kelly before she was married . Can anyone help me. Thanks Theresa

Hi Thindle,

I think I have found the family in 1861 (indexed as Moren) as follows:

James (not John)  Moran 40 Ireland
Bridget                             32 Hull York (not Ireland)
Mary                                 14 Hull York
Henry                               12 Hull York
Andrew                              6 Hull York
Helen                                 4 Hull York

I also found an IGI reference for James Moran marrying Bridget (no surname) about 1848 Shipley Yorkshire.  Unfortunately, there is no mention of Bridget's surname.

Cheers, Colin

Hi again,

I just found the same family in 1871 and the are again indexed as Moren, and the census pages shows Moren.  Maybe I  haven't found the right family.

Even with the alternate spelling, I haven't found a marriage.

;D Hi Colin, Thanks very much for looking for me and replying. I have made a note of your findings and will start researching again. I was hoping to find Bridget's maiden name, you see being a godparent usually means that they are relatives. Sometimes just friends. I am wondering again now if my family Charles and Ann Maguire (nee Kelly) were also born here like Bridget and not Ireland as I previously thought. But, I can't find them anywhere after the birth of their daughter Agnes Maguire in July 1849. I did find Agnes in 1881 when she was married and had a family. Of her parents nothing.. No brothers and sisters.. which is strange ,as in those days they had large families. Anyway Colin Thanks again, and if you do come across any of them Please let me know. Theresa :)

Hi Colin, it's me again I have just found out that there is a James Moran and a John Moran I don't know who the John is married to but he was a witness at the marriage of James and Bridget. And it seems he lived in Middle Street Hull
It said James Moran of Mill Street son of Patrick and Mary of Down Ireland Wit. John Moran of Midle Street.
Bridget Mc Alister Mill Street Daughter of Charles and Ellen, 12 Mill Street. wit. Jane Calloghan. Mill Street. What do you think? You don't have access to the 1841 census do you?
