« on: Friday 02 December 05 19:39 GMT (UK) »
I've decided to use Excel to do my 1901 Leftovers, but for the life of me, I can't remember how to set up the headings!!!!! (like the ones given in the example).

Type your email address into cell A1

Type the column headings into each cell in row 2:
A2 Name
B2 First Name
C2 Age
etc

Type your data into A3, B3 etc

To make the headings in row 2 stand out, right-click the number 2 in the far left column.
Select Format Cells in the drop-down list. Select font size of 12.
Then in the Alignment tab, below the text control options select Wrap Text.

Hope this helps..

I tried to send a transcribed census excel file to the 1901 leftovers website.
I couln't save the file with the reference number as suggested.

Could the addresses not be added to the file so you know where the person lived on the 1901 census

Hi 68 ...,

I always rename the files when I get them,
so my suggestion is to name the file c1901_piece_folio_page.xls

where
piece is the Piece number (4 digits).
folio is the Folio number (3 digits)
page is the Page number (2 digits)

use a +++ for unknown folio numbers

eg.
c1901_0789_+++_23.xls
c1901_4828_013_01.xls
etc.
This makes it easier to sort them in order.

Sorry, but the address is not included, as it would have to appear on every line.

Hope this helps, and thanks for all the contributions,
Bob

I have sent another file with the file name that you suggested
let me know if you get it
