Anyone living in cheetham or near that can look up houses for me
« on: Saturday 03 December 05 23:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

does anyone live in the Cheetham area of Manchester and could tell me if the following houses or streets exist and if they could take pictures that would be the icing on the cake

5 Chestnut street, Cheetham, Manchester

31 Birch Street, Cheetham, Manchester

1 Derby Lane/Road, cheetwood (nr Cheetham)

Waterloo house, cheetwood, St Albans part of the municipal ward of Cheetham

Blue bell cottage, Cheetwood, St Albans part of the municipal ward of Cheetham

83 North Queens street, St Albans part of the municpal ward of Cheetham

And Scholes Street which I think is in Cheetham but not sure

Any help or piccies on these address would be absolutely wonderful as I don't live in England

All ancestral homes of my Smiths

thanks to all that can help and those that want to help but are unable !

All the best Angela.

Hi Angela

Have added this to my list of  things to do.

Most of Cheetham Hill has been rebuilt over the last few years and a lot of the streets have gone forever, but let me see what I can do for you.

Regards
Ken

Hi Angela

Just had a quick look at http://www.images.manchester.gov.uk/

could not find any street you listed.

Possible names changes for some street as well.

Derby Lane/Road could be Derby Street which crosses Waterloo Road

North Queens street could be Elizabeth Street which crosses Waterloo Road, Elizabeth Road changes to Queens Road a couple of hundred yards from Waterloo Road.

Hi Ken,

thanks a lot for taking an interest in my quest. It is very good of you and is much appreciated.

Its taken me a while to gather these addresses and would love to know if they are still there. I can appreciate that they might not be in existance anymore but I live in hope.

I couldn't find them  on that site mentioned but there are a lot of my ancesters homes that aren't on that site but are in existance and thanks to a chance hook up with a mancunian he was was able to locate the streets for me. I live in hope that you or some other rootschatter can find out about these address too.

Could North Queens street have anything to do with Queens Park in harpurhey??? I understand that harpurhey isn't too far from Cheetham.

Thank you so much, once again, for your help

All the best Angela.

Hi Angela

As I live in Harpurhey I should be able to answer your question but can't.

Queens Road runs passed Queens Park in Harpurhey "but not North Queens road".

I have checked a map of 1891 for Harpurhey and it was called Queens Road then, but I dont know what the other end might have been called in the Cheetham part of the road.

Had a look on www.old-maps.co.uk still no help map to old.

Will continue to dig for you

Ken

Oh you are a true star Ken,

Thanks for taking all this trouble to find them for me.  I wonder if the enumerator added the North himself just to keep tabs on which part of Queens Road he was on??

I have just found out that St Albans church is actually in Cheetwood which is just slightly south of Cheetham itself. Hope that helps. Thanks a million for helping me out on this one.

Angela

Sorry for the delay and I have not forgot about your request. I have done little on rootschat in the last couple of months --- just been very busy --- but I will get an answer for you asap.

Ken you are wonderful for not forgetting me...

I had resigned myself to the fact that I would have to wait till I could travel to England to find out for myself. I'm so glad you are still on the case.... Thanks a million for being a true gentleman

All the best Angela.

Hi Angela

Now I have more time, lets get this sorted. I have ordered a couple of old maps today and one covers the cheetham area so fingers crossed I may locate what seems lost streets for you.

Dont worry I need these maps anyway for my own family history.
