SMYTH
« on: Wednesday 07 January 04 23:40 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the family of Charles SMYTH artist/picture dealer, Dublin c 1880. His son Frederick was my ggf. I know pretty much all about him from his arrival in Liverpool in 1881, but nothing of his early life in Ireland, or his father Charles. There is also a connection to the family of John DILLON MP.
Any help very welcome.
Thanks

Hi John

Are you still up a tree?  ;D

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

Hi,

See this website or Smyths in Dublin 1850

http://www.loughman.dna.ie/dublin1850/xdubdir79.html#Smyth

Have you searched for Charles's birth in the indexes? The entry will give you his parents and address. The indexes are available at your local family history centre.

Hi Kate, Ticker,
Yes still here and plugging away!
I first saw the 1850 list a few years ago and wondered then if the Charles F ( was the F for Frederick?) was my gggf. I know nothing about him apart from what I have already posted, I dont know what year he was born or even precisely where. His son Frederick was born in 1861, but again I don't have an exact location. The story goes he was from the Dublin area and was raised in the Wicklow mountains, but as yet I have not been able to prove anything. The problem with both of them being that their births are before 1864, the start of the birth indexes.
I post this every year on Rootsweb and now Rootschat, in the hope that one day someone will link to it!
I would love to go to Dublin and spend some time trawling the archives, but as I have very little to go on I feel it would be looking for a needle in a haystack!
Thanks again for the advice,
Best wishes

Hi John

Thanks for the update.  Sorry you haven't received the help you need yet.

I have the same problem with my Irish Ancestors - see you in Dublin!  ;D

Best wishes
