Inpector William Brittle: Death? Matlock?

William Brittle born 1818 in Birmingham...married Anne Hill in 1850. Had 4 girls Elizabeth, Mary, Eliza and Ann.
Police Constable in Rocester in 1851, Sergeant in Kirk Langley in 1861. Anne dies and William marries again in 1865 to Mary Robinson, but abandons his daughters from his previous marriage! Has further children John, Joseph and Sarah and by 1881 is an Inspector aged 63 living in Matlock. One ancestor is reputed to have lived to be 100...if it was William then he would have died circa 1918...if not then before then! Any assistance with this research much appreciated...Jim

Hi.
1891 has him in Lancs
39 Mill Lane,Reddish
William Brittle,head,m,73,retired police inspector,Warwick,Brum
mary B,wife,m,55,Derby,Ashran?
Joseph B,son,s,21,iron turner,Derby,Stavely
Sarah B,dau,s,hat trimmer,Derby,Matlock
RG12/2976-103
The 1901 census has Mary as widow, still living Reddish so the entry for the death of William Brittle in Mar qtr 1900 aged 82 Stockport district looks good to me. See:

Still a good age

Many thanks for that...sorry about the duplication I posted the first message in the wrong section. Looks like he went to live near his daughter Elizabeth Ashworth, (my GGrandmother) who he 'abandoned' in 1865. Her husband was the foreman of Bredbury Steel Works...so the son Joseph could have been working there...very interesting and thanks again. Jim

Could you possibly give me the full details of that 1901 census featuring Mary Brittle in Reddish. Thanks. Jim
