Lynton Goode

Any help much appreciated. This young man emigrated from the UK sometime between 1912 and 1914, he enlisted in the AIF in Brisbane in 1915 and was killed in action in Gallipoli later that year. I know he was involved in the tabacco (spelling?) industry in QLD. Would love to know when he arrived. There is also a possibility he arrived via South Africa.

Was probably the tobacco industry - much of it in North Qld until people started giving up cigarettes 

It's not a good time for finding immigrants as responsibilities were changing between the states and the feds. I noticed on his army record there is reference to the Public Curators office (which would be in relation to his will). There may be some information at the Qld archives about this. I think every soldier leaving the country had to make a will (or designate who was to receive his estate).

THere are a number of Mr Goodes on the Vic list

Your man's army record is online - I thought that is where you received the information. If it wasn't you that requested the access - then someone else is also researching your man   

Go to www.naa.gov.au  -  search  - as a guest - put Lynton Goode in the keyword item and there is only one hit. A digital copy of his record is online, which includes a request from the P C O for his death certificate.

Thanks, how do I find out for certain if he did leave a will, is there a QLD Archives email?

http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/research/indexes.asp - unfortunately wills online only go to 1900 - but you can access them up to 30 years ago at the archives.  They don't seem to provide a research service
