Hi Jinky

There are loads of John Kirbys on the 1901 census so do you have any idea of his age just to narrow it down a bit.

Hello again, :)

Still not having any luck finding your John.
You have a birth date but a choice of years, where have you got this info from?  Have you got his birth cert because this will show his parents names and knowing these names should make it easier to trace the right John Kirby on the census.

Hi Bee,

Sorry my mum gave me the wrong date for John he was born in 1867 at Fridaythorpe or that area his son Ernest kirby who was my grandad was born 17th Sept 1896 Pocklington York and died 15th May 1933 while my gran was pregnant with my dad.
I think John might have married Elizabeth Smith.

Ji Jinky

In 1901
John Kirby  aged 36  born Fridaythorpe, occupation Hind agricultural (I think that means someone who manages a farm for someone else)
Elizabeth Kirby aged 27  born Bainton
Ernest Kirby      aged  4           Fridaythorpe
Herbert Kirby    aged   2           Fridaythorpe
all living at Hayton

on the 1881 census (which you can find at www.familysearch.org )
John Kirby is aged 14, occupation  farm servant indoor, living on a farm at Fridaythorpe

happy hunting

Hello again :)

looking at www.freebmd.org.uk there is a marriage for a John Kirby and Elizabeth Smith in the December 1/4 of 1895  reference Driffield 9d 613,  the marriage cert should show the fathers' names of the bride and groom, unless you already know them.
