Census help - 1861 & later
« on: Saturday 10 December 05 11:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I was given help here previously on my 4xgreat grandparents Thomas and Mary SMITH in 1841 and 1851 in Sutton Valence. I do not know of when they died, so only hope they might be around in 1861 and any later census. Here they are in 1851:

1851     Farthing Green, Sutton Valence, Kent
Thomas SMITH head mar 47 ag lab b.Ulcomb
Mary wife 41 b.Frittenden
John son 22? ag lab b.Headcorn
Thomas son 14 ag lab/sab scholar b.Sutton Valence
William son 11 sabbath scholar b.SV
James son 7 sabbath scholar b.SV
Sally dau 5 b.SV
Fanny dau 3 b.SV
Elizabeth dau 10m b.SV
     HO107/1618 folio 421 page 14

In 1841 they were already at this same location. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Raymond

A possible - the writing isn't too good ???

1861 Usmer? Farm, Headcorn, Kent

Thomas SMITH head mar 61 lab b.Ulcombe Kent
Mary wife 51/54? b.F...t...d (Frinstead? or could it be Frittenden with just the F T and D obvious - the rest is just a squiggle and the D looks to be on the end) Kent
Frances dau 13 b.Headcorn
Betsy dau 11 b.(probably begins with H but the rest is just a squiggle) ::)

RG9/506 folio 98 page 14

Hi Casalguidi,

That must be them in 1861, judging by the names, dates and birthplaces, as well as the name of the daughter.

As always, unbelievably helpful - thanks!

Regards,
Raymond

Hi Valda,

Thanks for your help! Again, that definitely looks like my Mary, and the death dates also fit into what I've now seen in the censuses.

Cheers!
Raymond
