1851 Request for LEWIS from Abergavenny
« on: Saturday 10 December 05 15:42 GMT (UK) »

Greetings!

I have been looking for this Lewis family for months, and at last I've found them on the Ancestry 1851 index!  ;D  Please could somone look up their details for me?

However, on Ancestry they are all listed under the surname of SERVIS :D

Edward, b. 1804
Mary, b.  1806?
Edward William b. 1840
Miles Thomas b. 1843
John James b. 1844
Esther Anne, b. 1846
Susan Gorgane, b. 1849
Walter Petvell, b. 1850

If the names Gorgane and Petvell look a bit odd, they should be Gwynne and Powell respectively!

Many thanks
Koromo

Yes!  ;D

Was there an occupation for Edward by any chance?

It can't be pure coincidence that the servants' names are Gwynne and Powell too. Would you be able to give me their full details as well - I have a suspicion that the one named Powell might be related.

Thanks a lot, Angie. :)

Cheers

It is a very bad image I cannot read his occupation and the servants were Sarah Summer & Hannah Price I was referring to your question regarding the 2 childrens second names My fault should have phrased it better

It fits perfectly - I thought he was an ironmonger, as his father was.

The remnants of this family are next found in London in 1871, but I've never found them in 1861 - if they can be called Servis, lord knows what name they'd be under!  :D

Much appreciated, Angie. :)

Heh, I've decided they all went abroad for a while! Thanks for looking.

Uh ... could you look up a couple of other Lewis people I can see in Abergavenny in 1851 - they might also be in Tudor Street.  They could be my Edward's father and brother, and they both could be ironmongers as well.

John Lewis, b. 1771
John Lewis, b. 1800
