Female Blind Institute 1940s--Kelly- COMPLETED
« on: Monday 12 December 05 06:27 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information about a blind institute located near Armagh which may have taken in Miss Annie Kelly  (nearly 60 years old?) of Banbrook Hill in the 1940s.

Hei Michelle,

I made phone calls to RNIB, Ordnance Survey, Armagh Library and finally the Irish History Local Studies section of Armagh Library. Hey presto - Thanks to a kind lady there I am able to inform you the Blind Institute was the Macan Institute in Cathedral Road, Armagh, Co. Armagh

Seaons Greetings Michelle,  8)

Thank you for acknowledgement of the efforts made on your behalf. Would you like some further assistance? I hope you do not ask now for the almost impossible and seek an elderly lady who may have been a member of the care team whilst Miss Annie Kelly was in the Blind Institute. I say almost impossible because it does appear nothing is impossible to RootsChatters.

All the best Chris

Hi Chris, Season's Greetings to you as well.

I am quite curious....... If you are up to the challenge,  I would like to know if Miss Kelly passed away while in the institute, and where she was laid to rest.  I would not know where to begin to find this type of information.  I'm so glad you are willing to help me and others!!

If there was a lady, as you suggest, who may remember her from so long ago, it would be a great honor, for me, to hear about Miss Kelly.  I believe she may also have had a brother, but I am not sure of his first name, or if he had children.

I am very appreciative of your help.  Thank You so much.
Enjoy your Holidays.

Hello Michelle,

I  have a little Christmas Box for you.  8)
I hope you enjoy looking at these beautiful pictures of Armagh City including the one of Banbrook Hill. http://www.armaghprints.com/armaghcity.htm

You have got me interested in this one.
I am wondering who were the Kelly family of Banbrook Hill?

All the Best Chris

Annie kelly was never in the Mccanns institue for the blind on the cathedral road.
this might seem strange but she used to mind me as a child and take me for walks
she spent her time in Hoophill, my family took her out over the summer for two weeks
she used to read me stories from a book in brail, she used to make baskets ant trays
i cant tell you much more at this time.
