Until today I thought I had a gg aunt Florence G. Banks; this was the information I had received from my mother and this is the name which appears in the 1881 census.
In 1881, Florence was single, 15 years old (born in Bath), living with her parents Josiah and Elizabeth Banks and her brother Herbert in Bedminster, and employed as a milliner. In 1891, Josiah and Elizabeth are still living at the same address in Bedminster and with them is their unmarried daughter, Sarah E., age 25, born in Bath, employed as a milliner. There is no Sarah in 1881 and no Florence in 1891. On the Bath BMD site, there is a Sarah Elizabeth Banks born in 1865 but there is no Florence Banks.
Any ideas on this apparent name change? Is it possible that she was christened as Sarah, decided to use the name Florence for awhile as a teenager, then reverted to Sarah?
According to my mother's information, gg aunt Florence died in 1935; she had never married. I have looked for Florence on the 1901 census index but can't find her there. However, there is a 35 year old milliner, born in Bath, by the name of "Florence Bave." Could someone with access to the census images check to see whether "Bave" could be a mistranscription of Banks
