Stanstead or Stansted??
« on: Monday 26 December 05 18:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi.
In the 1871 census my GGG Grandmother'd POB is Stanstead, Essex. However, I can only find a "Stanstead Hall" in Essex with this spelling, but I've noticed that there's a Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex. Does this mean that she was from Stansted Mountfitchet, or what??

I would appreciate your help/advice. Thanks.

Ryan.

Well, it appears that Stansted & Stansted Mountfitchet are one and the same. Problem solved.

Thanks for your reply.

Ryan.

1881 map of essex only has Stansted Mountfitchet listed , no Stanstead.
hope this helps.
