Joyce
« on: Monday 26 December 05 20:51 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the movements of a farm worker surname Joyce employed in the Marlow, Fawley area, both in Bucks England, first name believed to be William. He was a groom and was certainly in the area 1937, returning to Ireland late 1937 early 1938.  Could have worked for a Major Carver or Carter or a Farmer at Kimble farm named Miss Gore.  It is believed he may have revisited England late 1940 early 1950. Any information, help or advise gratefully received.  With kind regards to all

Hi Tuey

Welcome to rootschat :)

If William Joyce was born before 1901 then you could start by looking on the 1901 census.

If he was born later then it might be a matter of searching the electoral rolls of the area he was living in.

Searching for anyone this side of 1901 is a bit more difficult, though I'm sure someone else will come up with some other ideas.

happy hunting

Bee, thanks for your kind reply and interest, I believe that he was around the age of 18-25 in 1937, and as a farm worker maybe would not be on the roll, I live a long distance from Bucks, and  I understand I would have to travel to Ayslesbury to check, of course I may have to do this. thanks again,  with kind regards

Hi,

I can't remember precise details but back in 1937 all males over the age of 21 had the right to vote so he should be on an electoral roll, somewhere. though if you're a long way from Bucks it makes it a bit difficult.

Maybe if you put your original post on the appropriate county board somebody with some local knowledge might be able to help you further.

good luck

Dear Bee, thank you for your reply, I hope you had a nice Christmas and I wish you a very good 2006.  William Joyce (I have been advised) allmost certainly came from Co Mayo Southern Ireland, and therefore is unlikely to be on the roll for 1936/37, and the only record of him states that he returned to Ireland late 1937.  I have tried to check on farm worker records, there are none held for that period, and I cannot get access to NI number records.  I am thinking of placing and advert in some Ireland news papers. Again thanks for your help. with regards Tuey
