1841 Census Lookup - Singleton in Stainland Area
« on: Thursday 29 December 05 00:52 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please lookup the following family for me in the 1841 census:

William Singleton  H  b abt 1806 Stainland, Yorks
Hannah Singleton  W  b abt 1809 Stainland, Yorks
John Singleton  S  b abt 1833 Stainland, Yorks
Emma Singleton  D  b abt 1841 Stainland, Yorks

They were probably living in Stainland as three of their younger children were baptized there in the mid 1840's.

Thanks,
Doug

Hello Doug

We have got snow and lots of frost and you have only got sunshine.

1841 Census Stainland with old Lindley HO107/1305/2
page 24b Bar House Village
Wm Singleton   35  Barber
Mary      do      11
John       do      9
Sidney    do      7
Emma     do      1

page 56b Harris Grove
Ed      Singleton     25  Weaver  ( Think Edmund, a raised letter after Ed may be an M )
Susannah  do        28
George      do         7
Elizabeth   do         4
Sarah        do         1

All above born in County. In the 1841 census ages above 15 are
rounded down to  be divisible by 5 when the Enumerator remembers.
Do you think William is a widower and weds Sarah later or is she just away
from home. Unusual to leave a child age 1.

Do you have a hat with corks dangling down to keep the flies off. I have
plenty of corks with it being Christmas although thinking about it I always
have plenty of corks. No flies on us.

Hi Oly

Thanks for the information.  I suppose it's just possible that Hannah was down at the corner shop getting sticky buns for tea when the enumerator came calling!!  The other family is interesting.  I have no idea if they are connected at the moment.

No, I don't have a hat with corks on it.  I have an electric bug-zapper which hangs out on my deck and will be very useful on saturday night when I have my family BBQ.  It's going to be 30deg+ and the flies are bound to be a problem!!  I'll also have to remember to take in plenty of liquid!!

Have a great New Year.

Best Wishes, Doug
