Youngs of Tarring - finding the marriages
« on: Saturday 31 December 05 10:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have just linked my family back to Henry Youn (b.1812, Tarring) and Eliza (b.1817, Tarring). This family had 6/7 children including my greatx3 grandfather Henry Young (b.1839, Tarring). Henry Young then married Mary Ann (b.1843, Illmington). I have found these families in the various census' but am having trouble tracking down the marriages, and therefore the mothers maiden names.

If any one has access to marriages in this locality please can you take a look on the youngs for me. Also if anyone is researching this line I'd be interested to hear from you.

Many thanks

Nikki

Thats excellent, thanks! Their first child was born in 1835 so that fits in nicely!

Thanks

Hi Nikki

Glad to be of help.

Was just looking at the 1841 census entry when your message came through, and that first child must be Fanny, aged 6 in 1841

Hi
If you have not yet found the second marriage then one way forward is to get a birth certificate for a child.  That will give the mother's maiden name.

Hi,

As that marriage index you gave me is pre 1837 I presume it is from the IGI not the BMD index? Is there anyway I can find out the names of parents from that record? Or names of other members of the family? I think I have found Henry Young's parents but I need to prove the link somehow.

Many thanks

Nikki

Hi
Chris will have found that marriage on the Sussex Marriage Index - a CD of pre 1837 marriages you can buy from the Sussex Family History Group.   I have looked at the entry and there are no further details.  The only other marriages in Tarring Neville for Young are all female.
Charlotte to David Pank 11 June 1812
Elizabeth Ann to Thomas Weaver 10 Nov 1802
Frances to George Wilper 18 Oct 1818

The men would have married in the bride's parish anyway and as Tarring Neville is a tiny place the chances of them them marrying a bride from out of the village are quite high.
Who do you think the parents were then we can look for a marriage for them?

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

I think Henry may have been the son of John Young (b.Tarring Neville, 1768)and Frances. They had the following children:

Frances 1800
Lucy 1802
Elizabeth 1807
John 1808
Henry 1811

John Young (1768)'s parents were John (b.1737, Newhaven) and Lucy (b.abt.1739). I just have met someone who has all their family history and I believe that my Henry must be the one listed above but can't prove my suspicions.

SMI again.....
John Young to Frances Haywood in Eastbourne 11th Nov 1799  by Banns   witnesses Thos Young    Hart
There is  a gap before it says Hart so I assume that is a separate person.

John Young to Lucy Bollard in Tarring Neville  19 Jan 1768 both of this parish by banns

Have you looked for a will for John?   If he left one it might name his children and grandchildren.
