FLETCHER, Harry, of Tong/Harwood nr Bolton
« on: Monday 02 January 06 16:09 GMT (UK) »
My family have been looking for a long time for my great grandfather, Harry
Fletcher born (2.3.1877) to Thomas & Harriet Fletcher of Tong/Harwood near Bolton , Lancashire.

Harry married Agnes Ann Barrs (12.5.1900) and lived at Tong/Harwood where they had two children, Ethel (b.30.6.1901, my maternal grandmother) and Clara (b.?).

In 1905-1910, Harry left his wife and young family and disappeared either to seek his fortune in Canada ( where all the usual leads - ships passenger lists, land grants, census data both existing and emerging - have come up short to date ) , or to establish a second family in the UK.

Agnes eventually emigrated to Canada and we have traced her subsequent history as well as those of Harry's children.

On the theory that Harry did indeed go to Canada, I would be very grateful should someone have news of him through their reseach, or suggest leads I may not have pursued.

On the theory that he remained in the UK, does anybody have a Harry Fletcher of this origin in their  family tree?

In particular, a search of UK deaths yielded a registered death in 1954 for a Harry Fletcher (10c 347 April/June) with an exact age match of 77, in Haslingden, Lancashire (less than 10 miles from Harwood). As death certificates do not give details of birth, I hoped that I might make contact with somebody who could resolve this lead for me.

Thank you and a Happy New Yeay to all RootsChatters!!!    Lumber-Jack
