I don't have access to the 1841 census, unfortunately.  I can't find Amelia in Devon on the 1851 at the moment, but I'll keep looking.

In 1851 I can see Orlando Dewar and family b. Devonport, but living in Hampshire - any good?

Looking at the IGI - is your Alexander is the son of James Dewar and Jane b. 3 May 1826 and chr. 6 Nov 1826 in Devonport?  (Although Alexander gives his birthplace as Cornwall - ?)   James and Jane also have Orlando Glenn (17 Jan 1824), Jane Amelia (16 Jan 1828), Celia (03 Feb 1832) and Cornelius Glynn (2 Feb 1819).  Glen(n)/Glynn seems to be a recurrent famly name!

Just a thought: could Jane Amelia be the Amelia who marries in 1856?

hi jan hi man,
thanks for the efforts, yes there is a few researching the dewars who knows you may have even replied to one of my post but thanks jan for doing that again, and thanks manchester for looking, we know there was a jane amelia so i suppose its possible that she dropped the jane since it was also her mothers name, and i know free bmd as much as its a great site do get things wrong, thats interesting about orlando i would love details please, alexander is the son of james and jane , i have those and yes this glen name is driving me nuts, im trying to trace james back to sterling and hoping the middle name will help find his birth parents but that is a very hard task as all the census ages are totally inconsistant but thats another story meanwhile i am trying to find the dewars around devon so thanks guys for your help
