Jonas Roberts Thomas-b.Wotton Under Edge,1808

Happy New Year to you all!
I have come to a dead end at the moment with my ggggg granddad.
Jonas Roberts Thomas was born in 1808 in Wotton Under Edge ,Glos.
I do not know the exact date. He married on 17/4/1833 to Louisa Terrett,but by this time had moved to Kennington in London. He died in 1878. I am trying to find any info regarding Jonas parents,family etc. I live in London so its not easy for me to pop into the records office although later in the year I am planning a trip.
Any help you lovely people can give would be very much appreciated! [for the ladies!]

Jonas and John could be interchangeable

Also if his mother remarried to a "Thomas" could explain the name.

Is there a reason why you think he was born in 1808?

Thanks for replying.
I have copies of the Censuses for 1851,1861 and 1871 where his age is pretty consistent ie 42,52,62 so it could be that he was born in 1809. This is about all I know about him other than his job was a Pianoforte Maker.Thank you again for helping.

Thanks for replying and your offer of help. Please see my reply to Claudia.That is really all I know as he must have moved from Wotton 1820-1830 as he married in 1833 in London. I did manage to get hold of Pigots Directory for 1830 for Wotton Under Edge but no mention of him. However there are 2 Thomas's on that so this could be helpful.

As you can see both Rev'd and knowing my family hard to believe they are related!

Searched baptisms Wotton under Edge 1806-1810, sorry no sign of Jonas Roberts Thomas.

I wonder if he was a non conformist minister - seems likely.

In which case the NC registers were never submitted and there are very few records for NC families in Wotton (mine included!)  Very frustrating, but don't dismiss the possibility that he was born/baptised there.
