1841/1851 Gerrard look up please
« on: Tuesday 03 January 06 20:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help please I am looking for the following:

James Gerrard - Father
Jane Louisa Gerrard - Daughter

Jane married in London in 1864 (gives her age as 26) however, she was born in Bristol and it is possible that the family were still in Bristol in 1841 - 1851)

The marriage certificate shows that her Father's occupation is Weaver

Thanks in advance

Anne

Hello Anne

Do you know anything else about Jane?  I can't find her in 1851 - do you have her in 1861?  or any other census might help?

There isn't a birth showing on freebmd for her either, but it is not a complete record as you know.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi

I have been able to trace Jane Louisa Gerrard from the 1861 census. At that time she was living in London / St Lukes Finsbury - and  working in a carpet warehouse.

She married in 1864 to George Stamford - and her marriage certificate shows her as 26 years old (this may  not be totally accurate) and her Father James Gerrard as a weaver. In all of the census docs from 1881 to 1891 all show her being  born in Bristol.

This is about all I know. I am trying to establish more information so that I can trace her parents. The problem I have is that I am not sure when they moved to London from Bristol.

kind regards and thanks

Hi Ann
In 1841 this is the only James in Bristol, but no Jane and wrong occupation - could be she is not yet born if her age at marriage is not accurate ??? :-\

East Buildings, Bristol, St Philip and Jacob (Without)
James Jerrard 27 Engineer
Ann do 21
Both born out of county
HO107/378/8 Pg18

Also it is possible Jane was illegitimate and James is fictitious or mother's father. There is a Jane Jerrard 25 Female servant in Bristol in 41.

Hope you sort this one out
Jan ;)

Are there any clues on the marriage cert?

Have you identified the witnesses?

I suppose at a stretch James could be an engineer in a carpet weaving factory... but that is something more associated with Wilton or Axminster.

V mysterious!

Hi All,

Well doing a random google search I found this post from 2006 by my Aunt. Sadly she passed away in 2013 and I have taken up the duties of tracing the tree.

I have some new info that might help but I am stuck. I found a baptism record for a Louisa Jane Gerrard from Saint Leonards in Shoreditch from 1855 that lists her year of birth as 1832. Her father is listed as Charles Gerrard, a weaver who is listed as deceased. I figure this must be her and maybe her father's name was Charles James Gerrard.

Would appreciated any new input based on this.

Thanks
