Where is Emma Hawkin?
« on: Friday 06 January 06 04:08 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for Emma Hawkin, she was born in Llantrissant in 1843, also her daughter Mary Hawkin born in Treherbert in 1867. I can get them up on the 1881 census but not in the Free BMD. Can anybody please help?
Also thank you Wendi for help with Maesteg mariages - just what I was looking for.

Hello
Looking at the  coverage graphs of Free BMD the probable marriage and birth years of the Hawkin family seem to be in years not yet transcribed.
You will have to resort to 1837 online to obtain more details
at present.
Do you need  the family in 1871  when they are transcribed as Hogins. By 1891 Emma appears to have married the lodger in the 1881 enumeration, who was also lodging with Emma and children in 1871.

Thank you for your reply. What do I do next, do I have to pay to go into the 1837 census, and how do I look up the 1871.? I'm new at all this and I'm finding it a bit daunting. Thank you for any help that you can give me.

Hello
Here are the census details for 1871,1891 and 1901.
1837  online costs £5 for 55 searches. I would concentate on finding  the second marriage details, and then obtaining the certificate which should give Emma`s earlier surnames
and father`s name and occupation
Failing that(i could not find the marriage on free bmd ) look for one of the childrens births, which should give the parentage and Emma`s former surnames. Llantrissant registration details
would have been in Cardiff District till 18/7/1863 and thereafter in Pontypridd District. Maesteg and Cwmdu would have been Bridgend District.
