Hi Suzi

There is a marriage entry coming up for a Richard McNaught and Marion (single r) Currie in Dumfries in 1924. You can view the actual certificate as an image on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  Their wedding cert will give you information including who their parents were (also whether they were deceased or alive at the time of their wedding), their mothers' maiden names, occupations at the time of the wedding, the bride/groom's ages, all of which will help you research further back.

Regards.

The marriage is correct (family bible) Richard McNaught `s Mother married  a William Rae in the Lockerbie area and he had a brother William.    I have no father for Richard but can get back to Marion`s parents .   James Baird Currie Born circa 1865 Lochmaben and Janet Renwick Grieve Lochmaben  1864  I may have found Janets Parents  Robert Grieve  and Marion Thorburn  but nothing on Robert Grieve

Hi Suzi

Just double checking whether you already have this information from IGI for Christina Bell McNaught, Richard's mother.

There's one marriage showing on IGI which may be for parents David McNaught and Janet Porteous on 26 Nov. 1861 in Ochiltree, Ayr. Children to a couple with these names are given as:

1. Jane Bowman McNaught b.20 Mar 1862 Ochiltree, Ayr
2. Christina McNaught 29 Oct 1866
3. Janet McNaught 30 Oct 1868
4. Richard Porteus McNaught 21 Feb 1872
5. Chirstina Bell McNaught 30 Jan 1874

The last four are showing as born in Colvend, Kirkcudbright.

Regards.

Hi Suzi

Again from IGI, Robert Grieve and Marion Thorburn married 6 June 1862 in Lochmaben. At least two children showing for them born in Lochmaben:

Janet Grieve 26 Mar 1863
Jane Thorburn Grieve 22 June 1865

There's a death showing on Scotlands People for a Marion Grieve other name Thorburn in 1912 in Lochmaben (birth year 1841).

Their marriage cert in 1862 will help you with Robert's parents and age.

For James Baird Currie, there's a birth entry on 13 Feb 1865 in Lochmaben to parents James Currie and Mary Baird. There's also a marriage entry for a couple with this name on 5 Dec 1862 in Lochmaben.  Apart from James Baird Currie, there are four other children showing for this couple.

Regards.
