Hi Sarah

I found a marriage of a Richard Rose to Ann Rothwell Manchester Cathedral 21 May 1826

You can check the maiden name of Ann if you send for a Birth Certificate for Ellis.

Also on the 1861
RG9/2921 Folio 58 pg.18

3 Anderson Street, Salford Parish St. Phillips

Richard Walker Rose Head 59 Millwright born Manchester
Ann Rose Wife 60 born Over (Cheshire)
Ellis Rose son unmarried 21 Mechanic born Salford
Wm (Freud ?) Lodger unmarried 26 Warehouseman Salford

I haven't as yet been able to find them on the 1851, but I will carry on looking.

Kind regards
Su

I see from the IGI that both Alice and Ann (Hannah on IGI) have the middle name Bowers - wonder if this guy is related?

Marriages Mar 1861  -  Manchester  8d 157
ROSE    James Bowers

I can't find the family in 1851 either - a lot of the Manchester census was badly water damaged, so perhaps they're on the soggy bit...   :(

I found the following marriages which might be worth looking at.

LancashireBMD
1847 Alice Rose to John P. Bradshaw Manchester Registry Office Cert. MCR_RM/141/50

IGI
18 Nov 1848 Alice Rose to John Hughes Manchester Cathedral

Lancashire BMD
1853 Ann Rose to John Green Salford Registry Cert.SAL/5/197

IGI
25 Dec 1859 Ann Rose to Thomas French Manchester Cathedral

Lancashire BMD
1856
Elizabeth Rose to Christopher McGowan Salford Registry
Cert. SAL/8/128

Manchester Rambler is probably right about the water damage on the 1851.  Sadly a lot of the Manchester area is missing from the 1851.

Just in case you don't have the 1871, it's as follows.
RG10/4010 Folio 90 page 6
78 Whit Lane Pendleton Salford
Ellis Rose Head 31 Millwright at Soapworks Salford
Jane Rose wife 31 Dress Maker Ireland
Amy Jane Rose dau 6 scholar Salford
Minnie Rose dau 5 Scholar Salford
Robert Walker Rose son 3 Scholar Salford
Ellis Rose son 1 Salford
Blanche Rose dau 3 mths Salford
Richard Walker Rose Father Wid 69 Millwright unemployed Manchester.

This means Ann Rose the Mother died between 1861 and 1871, at the moment I cannot get onto FreeBMD to see if she is listed.

Hope all this helps.

Kind regards
Su

Free BMD seems to be having a few hiccups tonight (message says they're updating, so I suppose I shouldn't complain!), but I finally found a possible death for Ann Rose Sr in Salford district, Mar Q 1865.

Do you have Richard Walker Rose's christening from the IGI?  He's listed as the son of James Rose and Sarah, chr. St Thomas Ardwick, Manchester, 5 Jul 1801.

Interesting!  Elizabeth Bowers Rose, dau of James Rose and Sarah, was chr. in Manchester Cathedral on 30 Nov 1796.

And (ta-da!) James Rose m. Sarah Bower, Manchester Cathedral, 2 Dec 1790.

Various other children of James Rose and Sarah were christened around Manchester at this time - try a parent search on the IGI at the FamilySearch website: http://www.familysearch.org

Hi Sue & Rambler,

Wow there are a few possiblities for the girls marriages there.

I knew Richards Parents were James & Sarah but that was it.  Now that explains the girls having the middle name Bowers.

Thank you ever so much for this, a mystery to solve.

I will check that website now, thank you. So James & Sarah had more children.

Sarah
