Where is Andrew Langford ???

Andrew was born in 1807 in Giberalta - but is this Gib attached to Spain or Gib in Aylesbury ?

He married Hannah b 1815 in West Butterwick.

In 1861 he is found with his wife and 4 children living in Althorpe - which in later years he gives as his place of birth.

But where is he and Hannah in 1851 with their child Richard b 1849 in Althorpe.

Any help is welcomed

Carol

Thanks,

I've scoured the census and drawn a blank, my only excuse is that I was relying on a computer based search

--- well thats my excuse,

It dosn't help when every census they change their place of birth

thanks again

Looked up Gibraltar in the Post Office directory and found one near Aylesbury, but the fact that there is one in Lincolnshire adds more credence to the fact that at every census he changes his place of birth on each census.

I've always been cautious about place names sounding 'foreign'  i.e. Hollywood nr Birmingham and Stone ; Dallas in Morayshire  the list goes on.

Thanks again for the info it is much appreciated

A few geographical musings, hopefully to minimise further confusions:

Butterwick is a couple of miles NE of Boston and perhaps 10 miles SW of Gibraltar.

East Butterwick and West Butterwick are a couple of miles SW of Scunthorpe and a similar distance south of Althorpe.  I'd imagine that the chap that Nicky found came from one of these places and not from near Boston which is probably 50 miles away.

The IGI has the marriage of an Andrew LANGFORD to Ann FOSTER 26 Jan 1835 at Althorpe.  The names Ann and Hannah are often interchangeable.  This is the only mention of an Andrew LANGFORD in Lincs on the IGI.

The bad news is that I can't spot them in Althorpe in1841.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your musings - researching in a differant county is just like researching on the moon, place names and distances mean nothing.

Yes I had the marriage on the IGI and came to the same conclusion as you - Hannah is Ann as all the dates fit.

The 1841 is the right family as children and dates also fit.

Also, thanks for looking in the '41.

Do you know if the LDS have filmed or fiched PR's as I think an evening out is called for.

Thanks again
