Johannes Weyrauch naturalization
« on: Monday 09 January 06 23:20 GMT (UK) »
here is a transcript of Johannes' naturalization record. we suspect that the town was mis-heard by the clerk, and that it is actually Schweigen. this town is in Spire, and Scheichen is not even in the area at all. Berzaber is a mis-hearing and/or miss-spelling of Bergzabern. the other possibility is that either Johannes lied about where he was born, or lived from a very early age in Spire as I tried finding them in Spire, both through LDS films and the Spire archives via snail mail, to no avail.
Schweichen is on the Bavaria/Alsace border, and the only town in the area that may be mistaken for Scheichen. it may not be the right town, though.

well, almost. click on this link and then on John Weyrauch, if it shows on the page. it opens up a window as a jpeg, I believe. right now I can't access it, though. my own computer and/or program glitch, nothing wrong with the download.

I assume this was filed in Bellefonte, as that is where Johannes was when Jacob was born in 1832.

here are some notes I've collected on the family and a few puzzles I haven't resolved;

in 1834 tax was taken for Spring twp, Centre Co., PA. it lists a John Wyrough and a George Wyrough.
I believe George may be a son of his.

is this a daughter of his? why can't I find them in the 1850 census?

Hi,

I would suggest that you get a copy of the marriage record; that might answer your first question.

If you can't find the Felfingers in 1850, have you tried 1860 & later?  Sometimes the census taker or transcriber really bungled it one year but someone else got it right (or at least right enough to show up in Soundex) the next time.  Have you tried variations like Fessingers and Feffingers?  Have you looked for first names only and dates of birth?  And have you looked for them outside of PA, in case they moved?  Have you looked for them separately, in case one of them died?  (You've probably tried all of this.)

Good luck!
