McMinn from Ireland to Canada
« on: Tuesday 10 January 06 12:23 GMT (UK) »
Have been chasing a family of McMinns who moved from Ireland to Canada. On the 1881 Canadian Census Robert age 75 and Isabella age 61 appear to have children Joseph, 35, John, 29, Devereux, 24, Mary Jane,21, and Margaret 16, with a six year old Ellen Devoll of English Ethnic Origin to round out the family. Children all born Ontario and of E. Methodist persuasion.

I have checked the IGI and found some McMinns in Ireland but none which I can identify with these two.

I have a marriage for Dev. and also have found him with two sons in the 1901 Census. A son later moved to Macgregor, Manitoba

The granddaughter of Devereux has an interest in her family's journey.

Heres hoping that someone out there is a long lost cousin.

Beth

Hi, Elizabeth,
Did you find your Dev at automated genealogy, transcribed as 'Dan?' ? you can link your contact information to him by going to the bottom of his census page and registering yourself as a person researching Dev/Dan? McMinn, this way if anyone else is looking for him they will see an @ beside the line number, indicating more information at bottom of page.
If you go here:
http://www.geneofun.on.ca/ongenweb/surnames/index.html#search
you can enter McMinn as a name being researched in Ontario.

Re:'Dan?'
I checked the original and the 'a' looks like it could be either 'a' or 'e'  but the last letter does look like a 'v' you can go to the message boards and request a change
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/index.html (top left)
or if you feel confident enough just enter the suggestion yourself from his census page by clicking on 'proof page' and then Dan? and entering Dev as a suggested correction :)

Thank you, Denise.

Good to know that there is a way to set up links.

I'll do that.

Hi, Beth
I think I just found your McMinns in the 1871 census. The names all match the 1881 and there are two additional children compared to the 1881 but the weird thing is the ages are all messed up.
Take a look, lines 5 - 13

Thank you Thelma and Denise.

I think my friend will be happy to learn something more of her family.
