Hi there tiff

Welcome to Rootschat, and yes you have got it in the right place.

According to the 1851 census for Barcombe and surrounding district, there is only 1 Robert Packham listed aged 50, Carpenter, and no Robert Peckham

But on the other hand there are 2 James Peckhams aged 33 and 40, both head of house, both with families.

Here is the twist - if your James was 24 in 1841, then would be about 33/34 in 51 - but the 33 year old comes from Keymer; and the 40 year old comes from Barcombe

Any more info to help sort them out

thank you for looking for me, i will have to try and work that one out from my book. my james would have been born about 1817-20 , he was married in 1846, would have had a daughter eliza aged 4 ish in 1851. i believe his wife was called elizabeth, on elizas b/c it says they were from barcombe, im just assuming james would have been born there, im hoping they didnt move about too much , this has to be one of the friendliest site ive been on, i have asked three questions so far and all have had replys. ty ..

Hi there Tiff

Sorry for the delay in answering your query, but I have been away since Friday attending the 'Weald Woodfair' at Bentley, Near Lewes, Sussex - where I have been baking 'Roman Spelt Bread' in a reproduction 'Iron Age Oven.'

Your extra information helped me to locate your family in the 1851 census transcription

HO107/ / Folio 178/ Page 67 - Jackeys, Newick, - Chailey Registration District.

PECKHAM John, Head, Marr, 32, Farm Labourer, born Isfield, Sussex
Elizabeth, Wife, Marr, 22, born Newick
Eliza, Dau, Unm, 3, born Newick
Harriott, Dau, Unm, 2, born Newick

Hope the above is of use to you
