Can you help? is this the right family, what do you think?
« on: Sunday 15 January 06 15:20 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Can anyone give some help or advice please?

1st problem : I can't find Eliza E Ellender on the 1871 census.
Eliza b circa 1853 Paddington (from the 1861 census)
parents George and Sarah Ellender.

I found a possible marriage for her
March 1875, Abraham Michael Stillwell, looking at the 1881, I checked out both males on that page, his wife is an Eliza, the others was the Caroline on the same page.  An assumption I know....
in the 1881
RG11/79 folio 4 p2 ED18

Abraham Stilwell, Head, Mar, 26, b c 1855 Laborer, b Middlesex Chelsea
Eliza Stilwell, Wife, Mar, 26, b c 1855 Laundress, b Middlesex Chelsea
James Stilwell, Son, Unm, 1, b c 1880 b Middlesex Chelsea

next problem
can't find them on the 1891   ::)
but I have found this family at 18 Robert St London
St.George Hanover Square
A.Stilwell, Head b c 1855, Pimlico
E Stilwell  Wife b c 1855 Pimlico
J Stilwell, Son, b 1879 Pimlico
A Stilwell Son b 1887 Pimlico
Katherine Stilwell b 1890 Pimlico
W Stilwell b 1889 Pimlico

Do you think this is my Eliza and family?
I think I have found James on the 1901 but no sign of Abraham and Eliza

Help!

Ni Newbie,

I think the 1891 family look very likely.
Try RG13/90 67 24 for 1901.

Hello Tanja,
that's great  you solved 2 problems 1 to go!

The family in 1901 are at the same address as in 1891, so definitely my family, A.Stilwell becomes Abraham Stillwell  ..
just found a death of Eliza  Elizabeth Stillwell Jun 1897 so that looks likely.

did you have any luck in the 1871?
thanks so much,
Newbie

Hi Sue,

Glad you are going to help.
If I am right in thinking that the family is at RG9/54 101 14 in 1861, then I think I can see mother Sarah and siblings at Chelsea in 1871 - RG10/75 11 14 . Only Eliza E missing  :(

Hi, this is the family in 1861
 RG9/54 folio 101 page 14

George Ellender, Head, Mar, 37, Labourer, b Kent Wingham
Sarah Ellender, Wife, Mar, 30, b Middlesex Chelsea
Eliza E?  Ellender, Daur, 7, Scholar, b Middlesex Paddington
Charles Ellender, Son, 6, Scholar, b Middlesex Chelsea
Emily E? Ellender, Daur, 4, Scholar, b Middlesex Chelsea
Sarah A Ellender, Daur, 3, Scholar b Middlesex Chelsea
George J Ellender, Son, 3mths, b Middlesex, St.Margarets Westminster

and in 1871,
RG10/75   folio 11 page 14

Sarah Ellender, 43, W(?wid), Head, Charwoman, b Midx, Holborne
Charles Ellender, 16, son, Apprentice, b Midx Chelsea
Emily Ellender, 14, daur, b Chelsea
George Ellender, 10, son, b Chelsea
Sarah Ellender 13, daur, b Chelsea

but I cannot trace Eliza E Ellender in the 1871, I've searched all sorts of combinations... ::)
thanks for all the help and advice,
Newbie

No joy so far

Nearest so far is an Eliza E LAYLAND, but that would mean the enumerator misheard & she was born Millwall.

May have to come back to this later
