1841/51 Charles ELLIS
« on: Friday 17 September 04 10:27 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for Charles ELLIS, born 1831 in Croxton Lincs.

Could some kind person please see if he is on the 1841 census and if so which members of his family he is living with?

I am sure the 1851 census would be of interest too!

Many, many thanks in advance.

Jonathan Ellis.

Hi,

There is no family with the surname Ellis in the parish of Croxton in the 1841 census.  I guess he must be living in another Parish.

Thank you Sue - it's possible he was living in Ulceby at the time of the census. Does anything show up there?

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi,

Looks like you were right. This could be them in Ulceby,

HO /107 / 647 / 20

George Ellis 35 Shoe M
Ann 40
Thomas 12
Charles 11
Jane 5
All born in county, address ? Martin Lane

a couple of pages further along on Church lane is a James Ellis age 75, gardener, living with George (25) and Mary (25) Boothby and family.

I didn't see any other Ellis in Ulceby.

I hope this is them, the pages are quite faded in places and although I looked carefully I can't be 100% sure there were no other Ellis families.  The place of birth is not listed on the 1841 so you would need the 1851 to confirm this is the right group.

Happy hunting

Sue

This is definately them Sue, thanks! In 1881 they were still living in Martin Lane, with Charles taking over as Master Shoemaker and George, his father, was living next door to the family.

This has revealed two more siblings which is a massive help, and confirmed George as father.

I am really grateful for your help. You, and people like you, are what makes genealogy such an interesting and rewarding past time.

Thanks again,

Jonathan Ellis.
