1841 KENSALL ROLLINGS
« on: Tuesday 17 January 06 02:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone

I would be very grateful if someone could look up the 1841 Census for me.  The names I am interested in are KENSALL (or some variant) and ROLLINGS (or some variant - could be RAWLINGS).

They would be somewhere around Lamarsh, Halstead etc.  I'm afraid I don't know exactly where.

Some christian names could be Thomas ROLLINGS and Maria KENSALL (noting that there could be variants).

Many thanks

Hello Alison

Many thanks for taking the time to look up these names for me.  I am trying to trace the parents of my great-great-grandfather.  According to his death certificate (which could of course be incorrect) he was born in Lamarsh, Essex circa 1820.  His parents were supposedly Thomas and Maria Rollings (nee Kensall).

His death certificate states that he arrived in Australia in 1841.  I don't know how old he actually was, nor if his parents came to Australia at the same time.  I thought if the 1841 Essex census could be checked, we might have some idea if his parents were still in Essex.

I can't find any record of the family arriving in Australia around 1841, but of course records were pretty sparse at the time.

There seems to be some family rumour that Rollings might have been Rawlings originally.

So I don't have any idea how old Thomas might have been in 1841.  Is there a Maria Rawlings also listed with Thomas?  Maria would have already been married, but she could well be related to the Colchester Kensalls.  If you have time I would be grateful for their names, ages etc.

This could well be a wild goose chase, if the family had moved to Australia by then - but one never knows.

We can correspond offline if this fits in with the rules of Rootschat.

Very best wishes
Filz

Hi Filz.
There maybe some of the variations of your names on

     www.foxearth.org.uk/

You can search by name or place. It is a very good site. It covers the 1851 census.

  Hope this is of help.

Hello Alison and Malcolm

Thanks again, Alison.  Don't know if these are mine, but one never knows.  I'll add it to my notes.  I have access to the subsequent censuses, it's just the 1841 that I am not able to look up.

Thanks Malcolm.  I have already checked the 1851 census, but will check the site you have given me, maybe trying even further name variations.  I can't seem to find records of the deaths of Thomas or Maria in Australia, so maybe they are somewhere to be found in England.

Very best wishes - really appreciate your assistance
