1912 emmigration lookup Thomas W G Jackson to Chicago from UK
« on: Friday 20 January 06 20:29 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for an immigration record for Thomas William Gray Jackson. He was born abt 1888, possibly in Jarrow, Durham County (not verified yet). I have found him in the 1920 us census living with his wife Elizabeth (Birchall) in Chicago, with one child born 1917, John T?.

I am hoping to find a record of where he lived before he emmigrated. Also am looking for marriage info for Thomas & Elizabeth abt 1916/17 in Cook County Illinois.

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike

The following site is an ongoing effort to enter all marriage records for Illinois. Unfortunately, they are not up to 1916 yet. It might be worth your while to explore the site, to see if it gives you any additional information and to hang on to it for a while to search later.

http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/marrlst.html

I've not had any luck finding Thomas on any passenger lists yet, but will continue looking.  He was not on Ellis Island or Castle Garden that I could see.

Sorry I couldn't help more.

I can't find the same family in 1901 census.  Maybe they had moved to the USA by then?

Thank you all for looking. I knew this was a tough one. I am sure the 1920 census stated he immigrated to the usa in 1912.

Hi Mike
The LDS family history library has films that cover County marriages in Illinois for the time period you are seeking.

It appears you would need to order first the index, then another film to view the marriage license.

I looked under Place Search, enter, Cook, part of Illinois, then down to Vital Records.

Hope there is a FHC near you. This would be cheaper in the long run, as marriage certs are $15 from IL.

Regards
