Place name query
« on: Sunday 22 January 06 12:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have a Job Vine in my tree who was born in Cerso in Dorset in 1820, but I cannot find any placename like that - does anyone know whether it might be Cerne or is there another possibility for this?

Many thanks

Helen

Couldn't find any village in England with name Cerso - must be one of the Cerne group - Up ..... Nether ..... or ..... Abbas.
There is another Cerne, Draycot Cerne. but that is in Wiltshire.

Hi Helen

I had a look at the 1851 image and it looks like Cerno to me, but is probably Cerne.  In 1891 it is definitely written as Cerne and I didn't find him in the years in between

Thanks, Trish and Watermusic, for the info on Cerne.
When I've looked at the name again, it looks quite clearly like Cerne...but as the name was unfamiliar to me, I suppose I couldn't see it at first!

Your help is much appreciated!

Regards
