Surname Major OR Rivers-Major OR Rivers
« on: Sunday 19 September 04 10:45 BST (UK) »
Sorry it is a bit convoluted but it seems there was a family row and some became Major and some became Rivers.

Seeking any information on these names in Worcestershire, possibly connected to Kempsey Hall.

All leads welcome.

I'm working for a friend who says this applies to his Grandfather, so we must be early 1900's late 1800's.

There are no people in the 1851 Worcs census called Major and just under 50 called River.
A quick look at 1881, which I am sure you have seen, has 25 called Major in Worcestershire.
One of those is William R Major born 1829, Gloucestershire. Could that be a possible start? From the lack of Majors in 1851 it does not look to be a Worcestershire name.
Your friend might need to start with grandfather's birth cert. or something :(

Like buses, they  come all together.

I must use the "guesswork" option and follow on from what we know so far.

Many thanks.
