Mahood in Portaferry, County Down
« on: Monday 23 January 06 11:27 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone any links to this family?  The furthest back that I can get is James Mahood who married Rose.  They had three surviving children that I know of - Hugh, William born c1817 and James born 1823.  The three children emigrated to Liverpool.

Hello Liverpool Lou,

There is a Portaferry Community Website  and a Forum where you could post a message. (This site is now closed June 2007) They have not got a genealogy board or a history board on their site at the moment.
I have to post them a message requesting a link back as I have created a link to their site on another website where I am a regular poster so I'll ask them about the possibility of a genealogy board.

I'm a believer in the potential of local websites and had this point proved when I got a message from someone who told me she had posted on such a site and they had found a living descendent of the ancestor she was seeking.

If we both tell the Portaferry Forum people about RootsChat in our messages we may get a few members from that part of the world.

All the best with your search,

Chris

Hello Chris

I have taken your advice and posted an email to the Portaferry site.  I had visited their site before and, like you, I was disappointed that there was no genealogy section.

Good luck with your researches

Linda

Hiya Linda,

The Portaferry Community site appears to have closed. I tried it and all I could see was a message saying "This Account Has Been Suspended" so I've edited my earlier message.

try freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/M/MahMak.htm#mah. The civil parish for Portaferry is Ballyphilip, but I think the Portaferry Mahood entries are too late for your line. Try familysearch.com as well
good luck, jim
