Hi and welcome to Rootschat.

Here is the 1851 for Martha.
Her husband must of died between 1851 and 1861 when she and James appear on the census together with daughter Emma, and Marthas children.

1851 census

James Macrow, head, age 41, coach body builder born Huntingdon
Martha Macrow, wife, age 30, domestic duties born Huntingdon
Mary Ann Macrow, daughter, age 2 born Rutland Uppingham
Charles Macrow, son, age 8, scholar born Huntingdonshire St Ives
Joseph Macrow, son, age 6, scholar born Huntingdonshire St Ives
Benjamin Macrow, son, age 4, scholar born Rutland Uppingham

8 Lower Curzon Street

HO 107 2088
folio 473 page 21
Leicester St Margaret
Leicestershire

I will look for John in 1851.

Do you want earlier census info for them, I have John in the 1841 census.

Thankyou so much for such a fast reply, i could not find her first marriage anywhere, 1841 lookup would be great if you can spare the time.  Many thanks Wendy

HI

Here are the details from the 1841 census

Please remember that in 1841 the ages over the age of 15 were generally rounded down to the nearest 5. So someone listed as 15 could be between 15 and 19 years of age.

Rebecca Elwig, age 42, born in county
Jane Elwig, age 19, born in county
John Elwig age 15, born in county
Mary Elwig age 12, born in county
James Elwig age 9, born in county

Green's Yard
St Ives

HO 107 0448
folio 11/41 page 16

and 1841 for Martha

James Macrow, age 30, coach m, born in county
Martha Macrow, age 20, not born in county

Barnes Walk
St Ives

HO 107 0448
folio 10/7 page 8

I have looked for John Elwig in 1851 and cannot find him. I will see what else I can find for you.

Nicky

This could be the marriage.

March quarter 1857
John Elwig
St Ives
vol 3b page 403

now the above is from the free bmd site, and does not show Martha but I have looked up Martha Macrow on the marriage lists for March quarter 1857 and she is there, being married in St Ives and same reference numbers as John, so that is that one sorted.

Hope this helps

Nicky

Hi  Nicky, thankyou very much for the information, i think Martha was a Strangward before marriage and there are Strangwards in Huntingdonshire on the 1881 census who are coachbuilders which was James occupation , so fits in .Thanks again Wendy Reynolds
