Well Michael it certainly is a possibility

As the crow flies it is not far away from Grinton.
My ancestor is Ann Outhwaite who married John Atkinson in 1807 I descend from their daughter Mary Ann born in 1814 she had a sister Elizabeth born in 1810.

Her parents were William Outhwaite and Ann Spense married 1775 he had another marriage to a Elinor Blenkiron in 1779 at Grinton.

I have no other children to either of these marriages worth checking though.

Obviously distant cousins

Heather

Might this be Ann in 1851 at Reeth?

46. ATKINSON Ann/Head/W/73/Annuitant/Yks/Richmond

A John Atkinson was buried at Grinton age 65 on 12/3/1833, and Ann age 75 on 16/12/1852, both of Reeth.

They seem to have had children
Nathan 22/5/1808
Elizabeth 26/8/1810
Mary 3/4/1814
Dorothy 21/7/1816
John would appear to have been innkeeper of Fremington

My goodness this is all very puzzling I got information from a family member recently.

Who gives the children as  John 1808, Elizabeth 1810, Mary Ann 1814 and Dorothy 1816 I guess Nathan must have been referred to as John. Unless their were twins but she seems to have had the two year gap. Unless of course he was born in 1912 and christened elsewhere.

The age works out right for Ann and Reeth is a place name on one of the tombstones here in the cemetery.

Problem also those days with cousins and family names also us women do tend to lie about our age someone once said to me "a woman who tells her age will tell everything"

I know some of the family went to America but some of them could have married and stayed in the area.

Although every cousin that has visited there in the last 10 years vows and declares that there is no one connected living locally perhaps they are not looking in the right places.

Cheers

It has certainly given me something to think about
