County Advertiser Friday Feb 21st 1873

FIRE --- On Wednesday morning, about 5 O Clock a fire broke out in the extensive works of Mr Jerry Robson, house carpenter and joiner, opposite the Bishop Auckland Railway Station and in close proximity to the ironworks. Wear Valley Hotel. Mr Todd's coachbuilding works, and the offices of the gas company. Police constable Coates proceeded to the scene and broke open the door. He also procured some men and buckets from the ironworks, and pitched water on the fire, which was soon extinguished, with little damage. Sergeant Harrison, who was on night duty, was also soon on the spot, having first given information to Mr Robson. The fire had originated in some wood work in connection with the engine, and the works being very extensive, and almost entirely of wood, the timely discovery, and prompt measures adopted it is probable, prevented a great amount of damage. Fortunately a sum of about £10 will cover the loss.

Dont know if this one is any good

Hi
Seeing you mention Hamsterley ...
My first mention of my ancestor Francis Sill is when he fathers an illegitimate child, Mary, on one Jane Chappellow of Hamsterley in 1804.   I have the bastardy bond but as yet, although I have his marriage in 1807 to Dorothy Atkinson at St Nicholas, Durham and his death in 1825 in Sunderland I have not managed to find a birth for him.   Any viewings would be most helpful.   This is a 20 year search which is not yet resolved!
