« on: Saturday 28 January 06 07:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi! all.
Searching for Thomas Rigby(senior) he signed the marriage register for his sons marriage to Elizabeth Barker 4th Jan 1857 at St Elphins Parish church in 1857 his occupation was a File cutter. The bride and grooms residence was given as Orchard Street Warrington close to St Elphins Parish Church, any information regarding Thomas(senior) the father or Thomas (juniors) Mother would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Algy.

Hi,
who do you want looking up- Thomas Carter or  Thomas Rigby?  Could you give as much information as possible e.g. the son's name and age might help to trace the family in 1851.
Good luck

Hi! Heywood.
As usual I got mixed up there are so many Thomas Rigby's in my wifes family also Carters on her maternal side. I have corrected the post and modified the info regarding Young Thomas and Elizabeths address at the time of their marriage, afraid I don't know any more detail about Thomas (senior) though.
Thanks.
Algy

Hi again,
what a search this has been- as you said Thomas Rigbys abound!
At present I cannot find either of them in 1851 but 1861 turns this up:
19 Victoria Street Warrington (St Elphins Ecclesiastical district)   RG9/2793

Thomas Rigby head  62 yrs  File Finisher  b Huyton
Charlotte wife  63 yrs  housekeeper  b Cadishead
Hannah daur  29 yrs fustian  cutter
Charles  son married 23 yrs farm labourer
Mary daur  21 yrs   domestic servant
George son 19  yrs  file cutter
Elizabeth daugh  17 yrs fustian cutter
Thomas grandson  2 yrs
Elizabeth Ann grand daur  1 mth
all the rest born Warrington  - it doesn't specify whether any of the girls are married to Charles - just that he is married.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi Algy/Heywood

Algy   In 1851 there is a Hannah Rigby 19, b Warrington as a House Servant with Samuel Newton, Publican, Manchester Road, Barton on Irwell.  HO107/2218 Folio 370

Heywood   Would welcome a second opinion on this entry in 1851,  I think it's the correct family but the writing on the image is horrendous.  They have been transcribed as Richtz but looks like Rigby to me.

Fennel? Street, Warrington - HO107/2003 Folio 334 Page 10

Thomas Rigby 50, File Cutter, b  ???
Charlotte 51, b  ???
Martha Daniels 28, dau, Fustian Cutter, b Eccles
 ??? (male) 17, File Cutter, b Warrington
Thomas 16,
Charles 13
Mary 10
George 8
Elizabeth 6
All children born Warrington.

Cheers

Sheila

Hi Sandra

Thanks for the help.

The badge is down to my grandson.  They lost last week and he's very fickle, wanted me to change it to Liverpool his 2nd favourite team so I had to put my foot down.  I'd be swapping it every week if it stood at him.

Hi everyone- brilliant - I'm sure that's them! I'd tried all sorts of searches but ...

Lousy writing but going off 1861 I'd say:

Thomas born Huyton- looks like Huton
Charlotte - looks like Carresh(inkblot!) (Cadishead)
Martha Daniels b Eccles and it has no indication re marital status
James (perhaps) 17 yrs file ????
Algy - hope this solves a bit of your mystery
Good luck

Just checked IGI -Family Search:
There's a marriage - 1825- Thomas Rigby to Charlotte Daniels Farnworth, near Prescot,Lancs. That's a turn up that looks quite good.
