"The Register Offices in the county of West Midlands, England, hold records of Local births, marriages and deaths back to the start of civil registration in 1837.

The county's Family History Societies are collaborating with the Local Authority Registration Services to make the indexes to these records freely searchable via the Internet.

Although the indexes are not yet complete for all years and districts, the database will eventually cover West Midlands births, marriages and deaths for the years 1837 to 1950 and beyond. "

The WestMidlands BMD has been updated with the following records ....

BIRTHS - Added 859,647 births for the Dudley Registration District (which
now incorporates the old Stourbridge Registration District)

Dates covered - 1837 to 1985 (see coverage page)

Districts/Sub-Districts covered:- Brierley Hill Dudley Halesowen
Kingswinford Rowley Regis (births not held at Sandwell RD) Sedgley
Stourbridge Wordsley

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE:- At present the Registers for 1837 to 1940 are held
at the Dudley Register Office and from 1941 to the Present are held at the
'Stourbridge [Regional] Register Office'. When searching the
Dudley/Stourbridge Registration Districts you should include BOTH 'Dudley
and Stourbridge' Districts in your search.

(which now incorporates the old Stourbridge Registration District)

Dates covered - 1837 to 2002 (please see the coverage page as there are to
many venues to list here)

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE:- At present the Registers for Dudley and Stourbridge
from 1837 to 1940 are held at the Dudley Register Office and from 1941 to
the Present are held at the 'Stourbridge [Regional] Register Office'. The
on-line generated Pre-printed Certificate Application form will contain the
relevant register office address.
