Naturalisation. Where do I begin?
« on: Saturday 28 January 06 12:23 GMT (UK) »
Hermann Neumann is on the 1861 census (RG9/3333 p6) living in Manningham, Bradford. He is aged 41 and describes himself as a naturalised British subject from Grunwald in Prussia. Are there any records available to view on people who became British citizens? He married in 1849 in Bradford and I am sending for that certificate, which will, hopefully give me his father's name, but of course, I want to go back even further into his past if at all possible. Any ideas?
Peter

Thanks to those links I have found the information on the National Archives.
He was naturalised on 31/3/1846 ref HO 1/22/356.
Now to find him in Prussia!

Thanks for that link...a bit bewildering.
I'm going to have to get my maps out before I go much further with this, I think.

Annie,

that looks like a fantastic site with links to all sorts of E. European genealogical sites.

I've added it it to the Immigrant Resources boards.

Thanks  :) :)

Yes, I agree; there's a tremendous amount of stuff on it as well as links to other sites.
It led me on to this link which looks very promising www.polishroots.org/genpoland/index.htm
