« on: Saturday 28 January 06 20:25 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone out there help, tisgrannie is my friend and told me if you guys cant help nobody can so here goes.I am looking for my uncle. David Thomas born in Rhuddlan Wales in 1913.The inf. i have is that he was in the Welsh Fuselliers, was captured by the Germans in Africa taken to Germany via Italy and served the rest of the war in a prison camp.I have a photograph of him in uniform,he has a white roping through the right shoulder lapel a strip over his right pocket with two white stripes and what looks like a beige colour then another two white stripes. There is a number on the back in pencil M21099,i dont know if that might be his number.I also have another photograph in what seems as though it is a summer uniform, not as much detail but it was taken at V Studio Art in Cairo.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks kidsnana

A couple of people I know have tried to get POW information from the Red Cross and got nowhere. But upon release British POWs filled in a form and these contain details on capture, camps, treatment, escape attempts, etc. These are in the National Archive.

Steve, i have tried and not had a reply, problem is i emailed them. The army records centre said if you write to them you usually get a reply.

The address is on the website.

Hi Steve, thanks for the input, knowing the details of the capture would be great.I used to ask him questions but he was very reluctant to talk about it.When asked, he kind of went into a trance,as though going back to the time ,shake his head and just say  they were cruel swines those Germans. When asked about the actual capture he would smile and say ,we didnt run fast enough, would never go into details.
I live in the U.S. so it is a little more difficult for me to find my way around,(i think) and i am new to this anyway,so again thanks for the info and any help greatly appreciated.
