1841 Serginson
« on: Sunday 29 January 06 14:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I think Thomas Serginson, b. 1807 Northallerton, who in 1851 is in Foundry Street Cockerton Darlington with his wife Mary b.1810 Hipswell was married twice as on Friday I found his children William, Elizabeth & Thomas at DRO but they had a mother called Eliza or (Elizabeth). Thomas was the last born in 1836. Bap 18/5/1836 St Cuthberts D'ton
Can anyone find them in 1841 census which may help tracing the mothers
Thank you

Hi,
They're on www.durhamrecordsonline.com
1841 Darlington - you'll need to visit site & pay small charge to see full info:

Thomas Sarginson 30, Mary 30, William 11, Elizabeth 7, Thomas 3 or 5

I looked through the 1841 Cockington census but didn't find them, sorry, so if they're in Darlington itself it's too big an area to search without address.
At least you know Mary was his wife in 1841.

Hi
Thank you barbara that narrows it down nicely. It has thrown me that an Eliza was the children's mother. Just goes to show the written word is a must in this hobby

Thank you

Tony  :)

Hi,

I see there is a visitor James ATKINSON with them in 1851 so I wonder if this could be their marriage,

Thomas SURGINSON  Jun Q 1839  Darlington  v.24  p.44
Mary ATKINSON the only Mary on the same page.

Regards
Daisy

Hi Tony,

I've just found a marriage which could be the first one:

Thomas Sarginson and Eliza Hartley 16th December 1828 St. Cuthbert's Darlington

Well done to Daisy for finding the 2nd marriage, it is definitely for those two people according to Darlington Register Office, whether they are your two people... you could always ask the register office staff to check if John was a widower, and you could order the certificate directly from there online at http://www.darlington.gov.uk/Living/Register+Office/RegOfficeSearch.htm

Hi Pennie,

It might be a good idea to post a separate lookup request on the Cumberland board with all the details of your Serginson so that someone can have a look for you, otherwise almost impossible to tell if your Serginsons have Yorkshire connections without more information
