Army pensioner
« on: Tuesday 31 January 06 22:40 GMT (UK) »
On my Grt Grt Grandfather's death certificate he was down as being an 'army pensioner' We don't know an awful lot about him, what we do know is his name was Thomas Wilson and he was born between 1835-1844, he married in Antrim, Ireland in 1882 (we have a feeling this was his second marriage as he was about 20 years older than his wife) he moved from Ireland to Scotland between his 4th child (born 1883) and 5th (born 1886) being born, the 5th child being my Grt, Grandad. Has anyone any idea about the army link, what war perhaps he may have been in if any. Or any idea on where we could find info on army pensioners, especially from Ireland as I would think it was from Ireland he would have been in the forces. I look forward to any ideas anyone can come up with....Happy hunting to all....Ann

Hi, this is a possibility.

If you read the info on number 3 here on Kevin Asplins site.

http://hometown.aol.co.uk/elasplin/home.html

You will find a Thomas Wilson listed.

You can then download the first 5 pages from the Archives here.

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATLN=6&CATID=695321&SearchInit=4&CATREF=wo97%2F6383

If you click request this, it tells you what to do, having never done it i can tell you what you get. Might be worth contacting them first.
