looking for info on boat people warwickshire/ worcestershire/staffordshire
i am trying to gather as much info as possible on boat people in these
area's. i am trying to put together a page with all this infomation on for all interested searchers to look at. and try to get all the info together on one site as the present info on canal and watermen is a bit haphazard. i am researching george moore/elizabeth broadbent//they lived in tipton staffordshire in 1881

You're on a bit of a hiding to nothing looking for boatman who by default were never in the same place for very long. However, in my search for my family history. a record shows my GG Grandfather, John Tonks, as a boatman. In my efforts to locate him and his family I come across other boatmen. I have some records of the Delph (Brierly Hill) 1851 and some records for Lower Milton WOR and Hednesford Boat Wharf 1891. Also if your search the 1901 census, advanced search, and insert occupation with boat, canal, crew, captain or any other nautical terms you may be lucky. I found about 20 Tonks records by this method.
