Thanks for your help Kris. I'm waiting for Ancestry to publish the 1841 census. As Alfred married in London in 1842, there was a strong possibility he was there and not in Essex for the 1841 census. His father, William may have moved with him. The marriage cert says that William was a miller, which would be an unusual occupation for someone living in London albeit it was more rural back then - and of course he could have been retired. As previously mentioned, 'deceased' wasn't written after William's name but it could have been an oversight on the registrar's part. I'm sure Alfred will show up on the 1841 London census but William may not. Incidentally, Alfred was married on October 5th 1842 at St. George in the East. He was about 24 years of age at that time. His address at that time was 2 York Street, off the Commercial Road. For the 1851 & 1861 censuses, he was living ar 84 Chamber Street in the City. Kris, have you access to the 1841 London census or should I post my look up request on the London forum?
