lancashire look up
« on: Thursday 02 February 06 22:55 GMT (UK) »
I am interested in finding info for my Great Great Grandfather. He was born in Ardwick in Manchester in 1840. Name Joseph Hopkins. No more info I'm afraid. Can find on 1861 census and after. Can't  find on 1851 census as that year they were flood damaged in Ardwick!
Maybe someone can find him on 1841 census?
Where would I attempt to get a birth cert for him??

hi there, write to the register office in ardwick manchester, you do not need ref no, if you have roughly the date or month then give them that, costs £7.

Thanks for your info. Yes, I have found him in the 1861 census and am now hoping maybe someone can look in the 1841 census for me. I have the 1851 but unfortunately much of Ardwick's records were flood damaged, so it is illegible. Thanks again!

Hi Joanna,
I don't know if you still require information on Joseph, he seems to be living with his grandparents.

25 Cross St., Ardwick
HOPKINS
George       Head     M     62       Grocer        Bury, Lancs.

Hope this helps

Dave...you've made my day!! Thankyou so much. I was unable to access any of the 1851 census as all the info was damaged when I tried. I managed to find Joseph eventually on the 1841 census living with parents John and Mary.Thankyou so very much. You've now given me my 'GGGG Grandparents names. Much appreciated. Perhaps his parents had died by then and it looks like he may have been an only child.
Thanks again   Jo
