Luckily there were only 3 George Hardings showing up in the Brighton area in the 1861 census so I was able to check them, none are at that address.

You haven't given a lot of information, even an estimated date of birth would help, or how are you finding the address, because the sources available to us are not easy to search by address.  We don't even know if your George would be a married man or somebody's son, he could be 80 years old or just 1.  It's just too wide a search criteria.

Sorry, I did mean to put in a birth date.

George Harding was born in 1838 in Newington, London, Ann was born in Lymington , Hampshire about the same year. In 3rd December ,1859 George Harding and Ann Keeping were married at the Union Street chapel, Step street, Brighton.

Georges address is given as 44 Temple Street , Brighton. And Ann's address is 14 Marlborough Street Brighton. Anns father is listed as Thomas Keeping.

George Harding is listed as a private waiter on his marriage cert. And Ann is listed as a gardener.  Their first child was called Ann.

thanks a lot for your help

Martin

Addresses that you believe they live in tend to be pretty useless, 9 times out of 10 they have moved somewhere else, even within the year.  What is important is their place of birth if you have it.
