Hi LInda
Had a quick look through the Glenravel Online timelines, which are a collection of newspaper extracts for each decade in the 1800's and came across a number of Corbetts. Not necessarily the names mentioned but worth bearing in mind as you do you research, and I find the addresses are also of worth.
March 1842 - "Thomas Caldwell. solicitor of 161 Brunswick Street, was charged with assaulting, with intent to commit a violation, the wife of Mr Corbett, barrister at law, Fitzwilliam Place. In his defence, the prisoner produced several letters allegedly frm Mrs Corbett, claiming an attraction to him. He was bailed for £100."
April 1870 - "A fire occurred at 16 Cranbourne Street, the private residence of Mr John Corbett, watchmaker, of York Street. His wife and two children were in the house at the time with him and were it not for the timely discovery of the fire, it seems the whole family could have suffocated."
July 1874 - "Robert Corbett and Thomas Lyons rescued David Spence from the river at Albert Quay. Mr Spence was drunk and was drowning when the two men went to his assistance in their boat."
Feb 1876 - "A man named Corbett of 60 Sandy Row committed suicide at his home by hanging himself. He was a man of 77 and was described as doating and was rarely left alone. A boy called Moore, the son of Mrs Moore who also lived at the house found him."
Could this be Edward Corbett b 1798???
PS Doating for you non Ulster people roughly means senile.
Jan 1882 - "Catherine Corbett was charged by Rachel Camlin with having stabbed her in the cheek with a fork, at her home in Acedemy Street. She was jailed for one month."
Mar 1884 - "Ann Jane McGivern, a prostitute, was charged with stabbing Lucy Corbett in Green Street and sentenced to six months goal."
Hope you are able to link in with some of these names or places, please let us all know.
