Can anyone read this surname?
« on: Sunday 05 February 06 20:21 GMT (UK) »
I hope I can attach this correctly... It's the death certificate of my g.grandfather... I can get a hold of the original when I'm up at my granny's in a few months time, but I decided to get the Scotland's people one anyway so I can do more research myself.  (Granny tends to get me confused by telling lots of stories and family-lore rather than facts)
Can anyone read his mother's name?  It's Sarah and I thought 'Calton' but I can't find anyone in Scotland with Calton as a surname... never mind a 'Sarah'.
Sorry if it's really big, I don't know how to resize it!   ???

I think it is "Catlin".  The bar of the "t" belongs to the first vertical,  the squiggley vertlical is the "l" and there is a dot over the "i"

Thanks both of you!
Unfortunately, I've searched both in Scotland and none come up...  :(  ???  At first I thought maybe the C was actually a G, but that doesn't look like a name really... Gatlin?  Galkin?  ???

Aha, found out my g.granddad was born in England (Grantham, Lincolnshire) so that'll be why i can't find any in Scotland.   ::) :-[
She was probably born in England... I really loathe paying Ancestry.com any money though... It looks such a dodgy site... LOL  :-\
